Moto X 2nd Gen has been updated to Android Marshmallow, which should be the last update it sees. Moto X 2nd Generation with a premium back costs $425 and £439 for the 16GB version and $175 and £479 for the 32GB edition, based on the original pricing. Wood and leather always added to the price. Bumping the internal storage from 16GB to 32GB took it to £460. In the UK, the new Moto X GSM unlocked edition became available at the end of September 2014 for £420 through Motorola's official website. Discounted from Motorola, you can find it even cheaper on Amazon right now. On sale, it was reduced to $1 during Black Friday by some retailers, and Motorola eventually followed suit on its Moto Maker website in December. Both carriers sold the 16GB phone on-contract for $100 and 32GB version for $150. The Moto X 2nd Generation launched on September 16, 2014, but that was the AT&T release date in the US.

You can share it, set it as wallpaper or contact photo, or edit it. Viewing a single photo gives you a number of options. Upon opening the app you'll see two tabs - one for all photos and another one for highlights. Google Photos is onboard as well with unlimited backup of your images. It handles videos, too, as there is no dedicated video player. Its browsing interface is very basic, but there are powerful editing options. Motorola's proprietary Gallery is the default image explorer on the Moto G (2nd Gen). The duo matches the new look of Android Lollipop. It offers two sleek-looking, brand new skins - Material Dark and Material Light.

Thankfully, the latter is available for free in Google Play. We found its interface to be inferior the one found in Google's own Messenger app. Oddly, Motorola has opted for its own messaging app.
If you tap on its icon, it will tell you the Gmail app is the client that will handle all your emails from now on. The generic Email app is being decommissioned in favor of the Gmail app. Messaging is pretty much as straightforward an affair as on every other droid out there. Its stereo speakers are also loud and crisp, so speakerphone conversations will certainly not be a chore. The Moto X Style (Pure Edition) offers high in-call volume. The dialer is invoked by taping on its dedicated key and supports smart dialing. The phone app comes with a tabbed interface for speed dial, recent calls and all contacts. A button to add a new contact is constantly present in the bottom right corner - you can choose which account to sync the new addition with. You can sync with multiple accounts including Google and Exchange. The contacts manager features tabbed interface, which displays all contacts and the favorites.
